ABOUT LEGACY OF THE HORSE
Legacy of the Horse is Australia’s premier standalone Colt Starting Championship, bringing together elite horse trainers from across Australia, New Zealand and the United States for an unforgettable four-day event.

Founded by Kim Peterson of The Australian Cowgirl Co., Legacy of the Horse was born from a passion for celebrating true horsemanship—where trust, timing, and connection take centre stage. Inspired by international events like Road to the Horse, this competition shines a spotlight on the art of starting young horses with feel, respect, and a solid foundation for the future.

Hosted in Victoria, Australia, the event showcases a lineup of six highly skilled trainers from a variety of disciplines. Three selected Championship Trainers are joined by three Wild Card Competitors, with the winner of the Wild Card round advancing to the Championship to complete the final four.
​
Over the course of four days, each trainer works with a two-year-old horse—lightly handled and carefully selected by our official horse supplier, Woodstock Paint Horses. Trainers will demonstrate their unique methods in building trust, communication, and performance potential with their young horse.

We are proud to welcome Woodstock Paint Horses as the official horse provider for Legacy of the Horse 2025. With a long-standing reputation for excellence in breeding, Woodstock Paint Horses have been producing quality all round horses for several decades, with a focus on soundness, versatility, and exceptional temperament.

These horses will provide a true testament to thoughtful breeding and give our trainers an opportunity to demonstrate their horsemanship on quality young horses prepared for their next chapter.
